Purpose of test

You want to check if you have contracted an STD (Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis or Mycoplasma genitalium). Following a consultation with your GP, you have received a sampling kit. This allows you to collect a sample of the required test material easily and discretely at home.

Preparation

Please note: Take the provided container and tube out of the package and Please record the following details on the label of the tube: name, initials and gender. Place a sticker with barcode on each tube. Allow for at least 1 hour between the sample collection and previous urination.

Testing process

Start urinating in the provided container or a clean glass.

  1. Remove the tube and pipette from the packaging;
  2. Remove the cap from the tube through twisting. The tube contains fluid, so keep it upright;
  3. Hold the bulb of the pipette between your thumb and index finger. Gently squeeze the bulb;
  4. Dip the tip of the pipette in the container with your urine;
  5. Gently release the bulb to allow urine to flow into the pipette;
  6. Place the filled pipette inside the tube;
  7. Gently squeeze the bulb to allow the urine to flow from the pipette into the tube;
  8. Stop once the urine is visible between the two black lines;
  9. Remove the pipette from the tube and discard;
  10. Ensure the cap closed firmly on the tube.

Please note:

  • The fluid must remain in the tube.
  • If any fluid splashes onto the skin, wash with soap and water.
  • If any fluid splashes into the eye, rinse with plenty of water.
  • If problems persist, please consult your GP.

Packaging and Submission

  1. Open envelope labelled MEDICAL POST and remove the carton and safety bag.
  2. Place the tube(s) in the plastic safety bag, pull the white strip off the blue tape of the safety bag and seal the bag.
  3. Insert the safety bag into the carton and insert the entire package in the return envelope labelled MEDICAL POST Star-shl.
  4. Add the request form from your GP to the return envelope labelled MEDICAL MAIL and seal the envelope.
  5. Deliver the envelope that same day. This can be done in 3 ways:
    – Hand the envelope in at your GP (best option).
    – Hand the envelope in at a Star-shl location.
    – Post the envelope in a Post NL letterbox.
  6. Store the tube in the refrigerator if you are not able to deliver the tube on the same day.
  7. Note: If you also need to have a blood sample collected, you will receive an extra request form for this. In that case you can also hand in the tubes at the blood collection facility.
  8. The GP will receive the results digitally within 2 working days and will discuss them with you.
